APRIL 8, 2015 (Honolulu) – This week, education specialist Monty Clark released his new book, “I Wish Someone Had Told Me,” which aims to address the low student retention rates of colleges across the country and throughout Europe. The book offers practical advice, real life examples and hands-on exercises to help students get the most out of their college experience.
“College dropout rates are up to 50% in some states, the highest numbers coming from community colleges,” says Clark. “The problem is, a lot of things kids need to know to successfully prepare for and complete college, they don’t teach in high school or even college.”
In addition to providing poignant examples from his years working in higher education, Clark’s book illustrates techniques that successful businesses have used to gain continued growth year after year, and demonstrates how the reader can apply these techniques to their own life.
“I have read and re-read this and I wish that I had an incredibly wise guide like this when I was young,” says Lorna Hernandez, a retired college instructor. “I think every young student needs this book.”
Not just another self-help book, “I Wish Someone Had Told Me” is primarily aimed at college students either fresh out of high school or returning to school after being in the workforce for years. However, anyone looking to improve an aspect of their life will also find this book useful because it addresses the broader theme of getting what you want out of life and have fun doing it.
Clark’s career in higher education has included serving as a teacher, guest lecturer, Department Chair, Dean of Academic Affairs, and Campus Director for various colleges across the country. He discovered his passion for improving the educational experience while helping students prepare to graduate from college. He has a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from the University of Vermont, an associate’s degree in Computer Animation from the Fort Lauderdale Art Institute, and an MBA from the University of Miami. Clark also spent numerous years working in the music, film and computer animation industries.
“Learning from Monty helped guide me on my career path toward working in Hollywood, CA,” says Huey Carroll, senior paint compositor for Paramount Pictures. “Today, I can be found on a Paramount Pictures lot working on a Hollywood blockbuster movie.”
Currently living on Oahu, Clark plans to do class presentations for both high school seniors and college freshman to present these tips to help students realize their dreams.
This 208-page, easy-to-read book is available on Amazon in hardcopy (Kindle coming soon).
